So I would really like to be able to tow my trash to moab and other places....

I am looking for a cheap way to do it!

On that note, I found a 86 3/4ton suburban for 1500 bucks. It has a 454, 400 tranny and seat belts for 9.

The Down side......you got it.....2 wd:darn: :darn:

so what would you do???

I would be all over that for $1500!

2wd isnt going to kill you at all. I very rarely use 4wd in my tow rig. In fact its been out for almost two years and I've only missed it a few times.

Does it have AC and stuff?

My 92 burb is our tow rig.....It has the 454 and 4l80e, 2wd....Works just fine!

We just got home late last night, drove over the pass coming into marsing...Almost white out conditions, 3" of snow and ice on the road, and we mobbed it in 2wd towing a 20' enclosed trailer :D And the trailer loaded down is about 7500lbs.

BTW, with mine it is a TBI motor, we tow at 70mph and get about 10mpg.
Worst we have gotten was 8mpg.

go for it chad, 2wd will get better MPG than 4wd.. I can also help you convert it to TBI if you wanted to later on down the road.
I also have a set of headers for that 454....:flipoff:

I will prolly go look at it soon.... its in utah...

But i think I will get it....can't really go wrong fer the money....

what things (negative) should watch out for?? any quirks to look for..

my father said that his 454 never could stay very cool...he had a hard time keeping the cab cool, as all the motor heat would come thru the firewall.

this does have a/c it was converted to the freeze 12 stuff. anyone have any experiance with this?

thanx for the advise

If it does have a hard time keeping cool, that's easy enough to fix...
Personally, I don't care for freeze 12.. it doesn't cool as well and oil degrades faster in the system. I like R134A best.

Just an FYI, many of the replacement freon's contain propane, which is a bad thing. For obvious reasons. :thumb: Other than that it sounds like it'd be a great tow rig for you. Just my .02

we just towed this weekend with the new 20' enclosed trailer...

Figure 8k lbs loaded, driving at 70mph with my 92 burb, we got 9mpg.

That was this last weekend, during the weather too...So we may get a little extra with out the wind.
