The guys that started land rover, actually got the inspiration after they bought a surplus Jeep from WWII. They ran it till it wore out then went to building the land rovers. That's the basic jist anyway :thumb:
I have a history channel special on 4x4"s. The 1st 4x4 was made around 1915! no-one bought em cuz it was so expensive. (they cost double the 2 wheel drives) But the first race across america was won by the 4x4(imagine that!), proving that it was badass(my wording)!! :thumb:
If anyone want to borrow ithe tape i will let ya. It has some great footage of testing the jeeps prior to WW2.
The first FWD, Four Wheel Drive, vehicles that I am aware of, were from around 1906. They were trucks that were for cargo and they only went like 8 mph. They were called FWD at the time, we know that as Front Wheel Drive today.
