I'm in the planning stages of building a 383 out of my 355. The parts that I have picked out should give me about 459 lbs. @ 2.5k rpm and 356 hp @ 4.5k rpm.

I got this idea in my head after I swapped the 400 out of the K5 into the K10. I couldnt believe how much more torque the stock 400 has than the hopped up 355. The 355 wasnt too shabby either. 8)

Let us know how it goes. A few locals here have run those engines with good luck.

You know...., I have a dead 400 in my garage that I'm going to save the top end and trash the bottom end. Do you want the balancer?

What kind of shape is it in? Do you also have the flexplate?

I probably wont be doing anything to it until next summer. So far, its gonna cost me about $2700 to build it the way I want.

Here's a list of parts I plan to use, it's kinda hard to read because I copied it from a spreadsheet.

I like that torgue curve! :thumb:

Nice and flat like a BB.

The motor is dead. The bottom end cannot be rebuilt again. The block is on its last bore and the crank was turned to the limit on the last go around. The flexplate went onto the 454 went I did the swap. I plan on keeping the top end as the heads are real good and so is the intake. There really isnt that much left that is good but maybe the 400 balancer and like other small parts and stuff that you may not need at all.

If you are looking to go tpi check out the classifieds on www.thirdgen.org. There are people that sell good tpi systems for pretty cheap. I bought the intake system ( intake, throttle body, injectors, basically everything connected to the intake manifold part.) for $230. It is in really good shape, no dings, remanufactured injectors and throttle body. Also keep in mind you will need bigger injectors, computer modifications (fuel, timing, etc.,), and you will probably lose power at about 4500rpm. TPIs don't breathe well above 4500rpm.

Am I? Yes I can see to go tpi check out the classifieds on www dotthirdgendot org well. Where are they? How much did the intake system intake throttle body injectors basically everything connected to the intake manifold part cost? Are there any other ones someplace else? Chat amongst yourselves. :) What makes you say that I will lose power at about 4500rpm.

The reason you will lose power at 4500rpm is because of the intake runner size. The tpi systems were designed with long runners to help out torque and they do but the diameter is barely big enough to support a strong 350. Most third gen camaro owners choose to go with the Holley Stealth Ram or other aftermarket runners. So to expect them to supply the extra air needed to support a 383 is reaching. Some people have switched to an LT1 intake off of '93-'97 camaros. They have shorter runner but breathe better on top.
