I was reading this post on pirate4x4.com http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=560073

The gist of it is talking about heart attacks and the use of cpr and aed's. One person mentioned his club leasing an aed to take on club runs. I don't know how possible it is to lease aed's but considering the age range of individuals we have on runs, the remote locations we go to, and the portability of aed's, this seems like it would be something to seriously consider.

For those hiding under a rock, this is an AED: http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3011859

Another thing that may be worth considering is looking into getting some cpr training done at club meetings. Again, I haven't looked into anything yet but I can't imagine it would be very spendy to get someone to come to a meeting and provide the basic info.

A representative of the American Red Cross came and talked to us about when and where to get certified. Fairly cheap and worth it if it is ever needed.

Not jabbing at or picking on anyone, I feel this is a valid concern that should be looked at.

The effectiveness of AEDs are pretty good for cardiac arrest. They are not really for heart attacks per say. They are also really expensive. If you all want I could do a CPR class at one of the meetings. I can pull down the video or power point from the Guard Base but it has gone from slow to retarded. They use American Heart association adn they are a waste compared to the red cross. We'll bring up at the next meeting. Just remember head tilt chin lift, 15 compressions, two breaths and repeat. After every minute check the carotid pulse.

That is true. I assumed if we are way out there that cardiac arrest would soon follow. I too am CPR certified, but legally we can't teach it if we don't have the teachers certificate. That being said, we can always share what we know.

I did the CPR class a few years back. Blew out the dummies lungs like 4 times and I didn't pass :darn:
