BLUERIBBON COALITION ACTION ALERT!

POSSIBLE MISTAKE MADE IN BRC'S TRAVEL PLANNING REPORT
URGENT ACTION REQUESTED

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,
Over the past few months BRC's public lands staff has been busily slaving over the telephone and computer screen spending hours and hours compiling the most up-to-date information on Travel Management Planning on the National Forests.
It's a job that really never totally gets completed because Travel Planning is ongoing and the process moves to different stages in the Planning Process, but we try our best to be as accurate as possible.
Recently, we noticed a significant flaw in the update on several forests in the Southern Region. BRC's report itself was accurate, but did not include the important fact that Travel Plans were being modified outside the route designation process mandated by the Forest Service Travel Management Rule. Indeed, large landscape level changes are being proposed via Forest Orders.
When originally contacted by BRC, Forest Service staff did not make us aware of these Forest Orders. We don't want to say that we have been misled by the agency, but they did omit this important information when explaining their planning process.
Although we do the best we can to keep our information up to date, it is extremely important for you to contact your local Forest Supervisor or District Ranger's office and ask to be notified of any planning change that might affect vehicle recreation.
Thankfully, most of the contact info is available on our National Forest Travel Report. To access those reports simply visit BRC's Public Land's webpage at http://www.sharetrails.org/public_lands/ then click on the Forest Service button. To help keep this information as current and accurate as possible send any updates about your area's National Forest to Ric Foster, Public Lands Assistant at [email protected].
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please contact BRC.
Thanks in advance for your involvement,
Brian Hawthorne
