I have a D44 (steering) pulled out of a '73 F-150. Weird thing is, it's leaf sprung high pinion with disc brakes. Anyway, I pulled the shafts today and the inner splines (30 spline) on both sides are worn way down. These are the "necked down" axles, anyone know if the F-250 shafts are compatible? Chevy, Dodge? Thanks.

you dont have a 73 axle...

it is most likely a 78-79 out of an f250 or an extended cab f150 of those same years

The axle shafts are a specific length for that axle housing. I have a chart here somewhere.

Hmmm, someone must have swapped it into the '73 pickup then. Could even be a 3/4 ton, how do I know which one for sure?

Yes, 5 on 5.5. Didn't know 1/2 tons came with leaf springs though... I'll bring it by tomorrow, still trying to figure out how to lift that Dodge 44 into my pickup bed.
