I have a d30 under my GC it's a 1994 year 52L. It has cv jionts at the wheel. I also have a d30 out of a 91 xj it has regular U-joints at the wheel end this axle is also a high pinion angle with 411 gears in it so I want to put it in my jeep but was woundering if i should change to the cv joint or just leave the U-joint axle in and put the whole thing under there?? I have a 8.25 for the rear with matching gears and a lock rite locker in also!!

Same questions as Lumpy and I fixed your post so it makes sense :thumb:

I have a D30 under my ZJ, which is a 94 with the 5.2L. It has CV joints on the axle shafts.

I also have a D30 out of a 91 XJ. It has regular U-joints. This axle is also a high pinion axle with 4.11 gears. I'd like to put it in my Jeep but was woundering if I should keep the CVs or use the U Joint shafts?

Your going to find the NP249 won't last long. I'm surprised it's ok at this point even.

My ZJ was stock with it (this is the all time 4wd t case if your wondering). It lasted me about 50,000 miles. I put a 242 in there, gernaded that one after a year or so. Put in a NP231 and that has been holding up for a while now. Pulled that outa an XJ.

After you shit can the 249, the U joint shafts won't be an issue. The HP D30 is a decent axle for mild duty wheeling. I'm running one from an 86 XJ under my ZJ. It's been doing fine with 36" TSLs for a few years (knock on wood!)

For 5" of lift... 33x12.5x15 would fit nicely. Or a 35" will fit if you want to trim a bit and dial in the bumpstops.

T Case you mean?

Basically the CVs were a NP249 deal since it's an AWD T Case and the U joint shafts would cause a bit of binding at full lock.

Once you get a T Case that you can run in 2wd, the U joint shafts are a non issue.
