Anyone know of a 4 to 1 T-case kit or T-case other than the Teralow, klune, or atlas.

Right now I have a 91 4.0l w/ automatic, stock SYE 231, and 4.56 in the axles.

Need lower gears, but also needs to stay affordable.

Any Ideas would be great.

Thanks
Cody

Be REEEEALLLLLYYY patient. I was patient for like 5 yrs and came across a toyota owner that had won a certificate for free gears. I picked the certificate up for crazy cheap. Ordered the gears straight from Vinny at teralow with the correct spline count and depth for the aw4 that I put in at the same time.

Also, you could likely come across a used set (or tcase) when the previous owner is thinking pretty seriously about a stronger tcase  .

Watch the classifieds on pirate and other jeep specific sites. You will come across something. Better plan on some axle upgrades too, the deeper gears will put a serious hurt on those twizzlers.

The Rubicon TC is a NV241OR...

I was reading something about a month ago about dual transfer cases in a Jeep. There were two people making kits at the time, someone on Pirate and I believe someone in Oregon, don't remember. Either way you basically take the front half a 231 and mate it with another TC (231,D300,241 Maybe). Looked pretty slick and it only added like 6"-7" overall, so if you throw in an SYE it only adds a little bit in total. The best part about it is you can use two 231's which are fairly easy to find and relatively cheap!

I thought you could put 4:1 gears in a 231??

I got a bunch of 231 parts off a guy in Boise, on here I think, that's what he was doing.

My Jeep does pretty good with the stock 231 gears. Most of the time I can put it in 1st gear lo range and it will climb at idle, or just a bit above.

Probably the cheapest way with buying new parts is getting a 4:1 Terra kit. Cody, go talk to todd at TLT he can get you the parts and install the kit for you too.

The next recommendation I would have, is to upgrade to a Stak case.

You may find someone with a used tcase out there out of a jeep, but sensors/plugs could be bad or wrong for your application and the 231 isnt the strongest case in the world so your not sure what shape the gears are in.

You have lots of options...lots of options...

Atlas Adapters has a kit to adapt a Toyota xfer case to the Dana 300. Since the Dana 300 can be twin-sticked and have reduced gearing dropped in it...as well as reduced gears put in the Toyota transfer case, I'd think you could get all you want and more here for a lot less than one of Atlas' 4 speed xfer boxes or the STAK Monster Box. Plus...if those Toyota reduction gears go between the tranny and the xfer case, you'll have twin stick capability for all possible combinations of reduction gearing. Excellent deal, if you ask me.

But...if that's too steep for you...I'd probably buy ONLY the Dana 300. You can get a pull-off from Collins Brothers Jeep (http://www.collinsbrosjeep.com/main.htm) for $250, but I doubt there's any guarantee on the condition. You'll need to expect a rebuild. Fine. You can get any of the rebuild spare parts at http://www.4wheelerssupply.com/ or http://www.4wd.com. You can get the parts you need to make it a twin stick at Tellico - http://www.tellico4x4.com - for relatively little money. I'd rebuild it AS A TWIN STICK and put it back in. Next, I'd save the money to put in lower gears (4:1) and both a front and rear stronger shaft (JB Conversions - http://jbconversions.com) and call it good.

The thing with adding another T Case is the driveshaft length.

I don't remember on YJs... but I know the TJ driveshaft is SHORT... like 14" if that. Add another T Case and the thing will be sitting over the rear axle :rotfl:

Need to stick with a single case.

So I will keep looking.

If anyone hears of any teralows for a 231j or a complete tcase let me know.

Thank for the Ideas
