What's up guys, new to the site here. I've got a question for all the mechanically inclined. I bought an 84 GMC 2WD and want to convert it to a 4WD, I know I'll have to pull the tranny and all that crap, but what am I going to have to do to convert the front wheels to drive wheels?

Thanks

Hey, welcome to the site.

If you can run a torch and a welder, its not too bad to do. Basically you will need to build the spring mounts for the springs. You will also have to either change out the steering box or just the shaft as the steering arm off of the box is different. It turns 90 degrees. I would think that the front axle would be the hardest part of the deal. The Tranny hump is lower on a 2x than a 4x but it will fit. It will just be tight. It might be a good idea to get a donor truck of kind to work off of. Maybe some POS with no engine and rust so that you can compare it to. Good Luck with it. :thumb:
